Then club members listened to Gary Brougher from the Montebello Historical Society who gave us the history of the Simon's Brickyard.
Gary explained that the Simons' had three locations. The other two were in Satna Monica and Pasadena. The Montebello location was opened in 1905 and was a company town environment. Bricks from the birck yard were used to help rebuild San Francisco after the 1906 earthquake.
During the 1920s it was the world's largest manufacturer of common bricks. The delcine in bricks came after the Long Beach Earthquake and duirng the depression. At one time 150,000 bricks were made per day Simons' bricks were also used to build Royce Hall at UCLA and Montebello's
French Cafe Restaurant which was located on Whittier Blvd.
Ray Kotroczo - Health Care Reform
January 20, 2010
Rat Kotroczo, Financial Advisor from Legacy Financial of California spoke on investing in this economy. He discussed the three types of annuities; Variable, Fixed, and Indexed. His firm proposes indexed annuitites in this economy because they have locked in profits - they can't go down if the market goes down, they stay flat, but if the market goes up, they go up.
The second reason is because they are guaranteed. I.A.'s invest in the best stocks. A Harvard study states they have outperformed all stocks by 60% and mixed portfolio's by 83%. They have no commission fees, no annual fees, and no costs. They do have surrender fees, though some are as low as 2 years. They are taxed like IRA's, meaning taxed when the money is pulled out. You can take out up to 10% per year.
